Custody And Visitation, Explained

In Pennsylvania, the law provides for two types of child custody: primary physical custody and partial physical custody. Partial physical custody is what most people refer to as visitation. Through the legal process, one party can be awarded primary physical custody, which becomes who the child lives with for the majority of his or her time. Visitation is then awarded to the other parent based on numerous factors that we present to the court. Sometimes, the court awards or the parties agree to shared custody, where each parent has the children for approximately 50 percent of the time.
